Frequently asked questions

Will the phone call automatically?

No — scanning opens the dialer pre-loaded with the number. The user still has to tap the call button. This is the OS preventing accidental calls.

Should I include the country code?

Yes. International format (+1 415 555 1234) works regardless of where the scanner is. Local format may fail when scanned by a phone roaming abroad.

Can I encode an extension?

Some phones support 'pause and dial' extensions using commas in the number (e.g. +14155551234,,1234). Test before relying on it; behavior varies by phone.

Is there a difference vs SMS QR?

Yes — SMS opens a message draft, phone opens the dialer. For voice-first businesses use phone; for opt-in flows or async support use SMS or WhatsApp.
